I have been working with the 14th Factory since September of 2015 on a portion of the exhibit that includes a number of 3d printed crowns. I was given a number of 3d files with "bad geometry". My job was to take these complex forms, and work with the artist's assistant, and a production manager at Shapeways, to actually create the crowns.
These crown had to be split, numbered, verified for wall thickness, and joined with a peg and hole joining method for later ease of fabrication. All told the job required me to slice 15 crowns into 154 labeled and interlocking pieces. Most recently I have also created close approximations without a base 3d file to work from, using only concept images.
